Hello Band Families! Thank you for your patience with us during the first month of school. The students have been working hard and we are ready to continue to push into September! In addition to our normal Tuesday/Thursday rehearsal times, here are some important dates in September. If you would like to chaperone the events, contact our Band Boosters at pacebandboosters@gmail.com.

VERTICAL RAISE

We have started our Vertical Raise digital fundraiser campaign for the year. Each student is expected to participate as this fundraiser goes directly towards band uniforms and equipment. They have been asked to get 10 emails from family members that they think would donate. You can also share this on all social media. The more we share, the more likely we are to reach our goal of $35,000!

Keep up with our progress and share as much as you can! https://verticalraise.com/fundraiser/pace-hs-band-drive-2023/

CHARMS

Please email pacehsbands@gmail.com if you need your password reset for Charms. The band directors can give IDs but do not have access to passwords. Please be sure to check your student’s CHARMS account often and let us know if you have any questions.

Additionally, please note that CHARMS was bought out by another company called CUT TIME at the beginning of this year. We apologize for any difficulties and miscommunications this has or may potentially cause as they continue to develop the new software.

HEALTH/WATER

We have had a lot of students out recently for a multitude of illnesses. Students should not be sharing their food/drinks with any other student or playing each other’s instruments. We will have hand sanitizer and mouthpiece sanitizer available at all times in the band room and please be sure to clean & sanitize water jugs thoroughly.

Additionally, please make sure that your students have a large enough water bottle to help them through games and rehearsals. A gallon jug is recommended, but students need to have a half-gallon at the minimum. Students should not be sharing water bottles. The weather may finally be starting to feel cool, but we need to keep everyone healthy & hydrated!

Have a great rest of your Labor Day Holiday!

Good afternoon band families, It's finally that time of the year where we are going to start traveling! We start with an away game next week at West Florida Tech High School in Pensacola on Friday 9/8/23. Students will be coming home tomorrow with a very important form for them to travel with the band. The form has two sides and needs to be filled out to completion. All forms need to be turned in by Wednesday 9/6/23. If a student does not have a form turned in, they are NOT allowed to go to any off-campus events until it is turned in. This is a district policy. We are giving ample time to make sure the students have this taken care of and no one is stressed next Friday.

Additionally, please consider either helping in the concessions stand this Friday (Home vs. Lincoln HS) or chaperoning the away games. We need parent help and we cannot make this band go do big things without our biggest supporters - YOU! You can always sign up to help volunteer here: https://signup.com/mobileweb/2.0/vspot.html?groupkey=297264374096&fbclid=IwAR1k0lESAC0QSzrOd8luGCQQrTA_jQM0LKafMZj7DpNkiMeGyIIWKcW-A_k#group_page Thank you so much for your continued support of the Pride of the Red, White, & Blue!

We wanted to send out a quick reminder about our upcoming June Camp, aka “JAMP”, from

Monday June 5th - Friday June 9th. This June Camp does not include any color guard

members, but is for ALL New & Returning Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion students! On the

first day, all students should meet in the band hall (we will have signs & students out front

directing our new students to the band hall). We will have important announcements for all

students before we begin, so please plan accordingly. Some tips and reminders for ALL

students are listed below:

● DATES: Our first camp is June 5th - June 9th. Brass, Woodwinds & Percussion are

from 3:00-9:00p. Arrive EARLY and meet in the band hall. “To be EARLY, is to be ON

TIME.”

● DRESS: We will be outside, in the sun, for the majority of the afternoon/evening. Wear

warm-weather athletic clothing (school appropriate), supportive undergarments, & tennis

shoes/socks. A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and deodorant are highly recommended.

Helpful Tip- Bringing a change of clothes for after dinner would be a smart idea as well...

unless you enjoy wearing smelly clothing all day.

● WHAT TO BRING: Instrument (unless we provide it), large mouth water jug prefilled

with ice water, 3 ring binder and sheet protectors (to store music), and a large beach

towel (you will want to sit on this, rather than the concrete or grass... trust me).

● Eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water before you arrive! Fruit, salads,

sandwiches, and any other light food is the most ideal here! Avoid dairy!

● DINNER BREAK - No student will be permitted to leave campus. Parents may drop off

a dinner for a student, but should not plan on staying. Dinner break for these students

will be from 5:30-6:15p in the cafeteria each day.

● PARENT DROP OFF/PICK UP: Please avoid using the front bus loop for drop off and

pick up. It quickly becomes congested and has caused multiple issues in the past. Plan

on dropping off/picking up your child in just about ANY other lot at the front or back of the

school. To reduce the number of people on campus at any given time, parents are

strongly encouraged to stay in their vehicle when picking up their child.

● ABSENCES: A director or staff member will need to be notified of any absence as early

as possible. Your student will need to catch up with a leadership & staff member on any

information that was missed. Please understand that being tired, sunburnt, or sore is not

an excusable absence. You may email us at pacehsbands@gmail.com

● MEDICAL PAPERWORK: In order to keep your child safe, please make every effort to

submit the Band Health Form and the Over the Counter Medication Permission Form

ASAP, in addition to the Student Contract. Many of you have already turned these in, so

Thank You! Hard copies of these forms are in the band room, and electronic copies can

be found HERE.

● Tips on how to prepare for all of our summer band rehearsals can be found in our Band

Camp Survival Guide, and by watching the following video:

Additionally, students are encouraged to participate in our Spirit Days, themed for the June

Camp week:

Monday - Section Colors🥳

Flutes & Clarinets: Pink

Saxophones: Green

Trumpets & Mellophone/French Horns: Blue

Trombones, Baritones, & Tubas: Red

Percussion: Tie Dye

Tuesday - Tropical🌺

Wednesday - Wacky Hats/Socks🎩 🧦

Thursday - ‘Murica 🔴⚪🔵

Friday - Cowboys vs Aliens🤠 👽

Note: Be mindful of what you wear for your athletic clothing to fit the themed days, as it will be

hot, we will be outside, and you will be physically active, so please- no actual costumes, or you'll

be asked to go home and change 🙂

FINALLY - Parents, support and encourage your child as much as possible. The first few

days of camp are hard on everyone, so push them to stick with it! This is a new

experience for a lot of students and learning to persevere through tough experiences is

worthwhile to their growth in the high school environment.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask. If you know of someone

who may not have received this email, PLEASE SHARE with them! We look forward to seeing

everyone on Monday! Have a great weekend!
